About CHIA

Community Health In Action (CHIA) is dedicated to working upstream on policy solutions to build healthy, sustainable communities where all residents have access to the resources they need to be healthy, a voice in shaping their future, and the ability to stay in their community as it evolves.

Focusing our work on the part of Sacramento County that ranks lowest on the Healthy Places Index, we take an “inch wide, and a mile deep” approach for maximum impact. We engage the community at every step of our work, embracing the mantra: “nothing about us without us.”

We work to identify effective strategies and approaches to reduce displacement and improve housing stability in the area. Join our Housing Subcommittee to get involved.

Food Access

We work to improve the community’s access to food, with a focus on healthy food, culturally responsive foods, gardens, education, policy, and planning. Join our Food Access Subcommittee to get involved.

Mental health

Mental Healthcare

We work to reduce barriers to mental healthcare and promote community resources that positively affect mental health. Join our Mental Health Subcommittee to get involved.
